A Record Breaking Registration!

Formula Student 2007 opened on 16 January 2007 and has attracted a vast amount of international interest, with 103 teams registered so far. 23 new universities have registered from countries including Japan, Australia and Russia, which highlights the fact that Formula Student is indeed an internationally recognised competition.

Renault F1 are currently looking for 4 young engineers to join their Vehicle Technology Department for 1 year placements, which will run from summer 2007. To find out more, please click here.

New for 2007 - Low Carbon Demo Event

For the first time, Formula Student will be holding a Demonstration Event this year. It is open to vehicles using alternative fuels and/or alternative technologies. For more information, please click here.

IET Faraday Lecture

The IET organise interesting and lively lectures that take place annually across the UK and the 2007 lecture will explore the dynamic world of motorsport. A one hour interactive presentation uses computer simulation to allow the audience to experience how race teams determine their strategy and pit stop tactics. Science and technology will be brought alive and the 2007 'Winning Formula' will take audiences on a thrilling journey from starting grid to chequered flag and shows what it really takes to reach a place on the podium. Autodesk has also launched a Student Community, a networking web site for engineering and design students. Formula Student team members can gain unlimited access to Autodesk tutorials, e-learning, curriculum materials, discussion groups and job postings, which may even help you to secure your first job after graduation!



University of Birmingham Celebrates 10 Years of UBRacing


The University of Birmingham held a well attended reunion on Friday 12 January 2007 to celebrate 10 years of UBRacing, and as a tribute to Dr David Weale, past Secretary of IMechE Automotive Division - Birmingham Centre and Chief Academic Liaison for the UBRacing team. Chalmers Goes Back to the Future!

This year, Chalmers Formula Student shall be heading up the most international team at the event consisting of eight different nationalities who between them can speak ten different languages. For 2007, they have chosen the ground breaking 1967 Lotus Type 49 as their theme. They are hoping that forty years on, they can make history and emulate Colin Chapman and Team Lotus' success at the 1967 Silverstone GP with a win of their own at this years Formula Student competition. Autosport International 2007


The FS team and the Learning Grid attended Autosport International, the biggest Motorsport Show in the world, on 11-14 January 2007. Exhibits from all disciplines of motorsport joined together at Birmingham NEC, making it the capital of motor racing.

Several FS universities attended, including Cardiff University who displayed their car on the prominent MIA stand.

Last But Not Least...

Formula Student was nominated for The Service to the Industry Award at The MIA Industry Awards, January 2007.

Congratulations to all teams who applied for and were granted generous Formula Student Grants from IMechE to compete at FSAE and Formula Student.
